N2 - In the first part of this chapter antimalarial drugs derived from natural products are mentioned. The mentioned drugs are quinine and other quinolone derivatives, derivatives of artemisinin, tetracyclines, macrolides, lincosamide and malarone derived from naturally occurring naphthoquinones. The recently registered drugs bulaquine and tafenoquine are also included. The mechanisms of action, clinical effects and development of resistance are discussed. In the second part are results from clinical trials of traditional medicines marketed as antimalarial drugs discussed. Clinical trials on drug derived from Argemone mexicana, Artemisia annua, Vernonia amygdalina and Cochlospermum species are described.
